WEEK 4- Detecting the Minutiae I Will Be Comparing to the Prints Collected Using Cyanoacrylate Fuming
Today I began the process of collecting my own latent print using carbon black powder, using my own rolled impressions, and my slaps.
Latent prints are left everywhere you go. The oil on your fingers is left behind when you touch something. To collect these prints, there are different techniques involving powder or other chemicals to process them. Rolled impressions are when you are creating a 10-print card. Your fingers are rolled nail to nail in ink and then applied to the 10 print card nail to nail. The slaps are created by taking all four fingers simultaneously, pressing them onto an ink pad, and then pressing them onto the 10-print card. For this research project, I am only using my right index finger to identify the minutiae that I will compare to the fingerprints collected after cyanoacrylate fuming.
Below are the minutiae points that I will compare to the fingerprints after they have gone through the cyanoacrylate fuming process:
- Bifurcation (2)
- Ridge Ending (2)
- Dot (2)
